Climate Change Affects Our Planets Animals and Pets Too

Does Your Dog Notice a Change in our Climate?
You may have thought that climate change issues were all about the planet and us humans but the lives of our pets are at stake too. Our dogs, cats, birds and other domesticated animals are affected by our changing climate. They depend on us for their very existence and we need to take action on this issue. Species are dying, the ozone is depleting, our polar ice caps are melting and the world is getting to be a hotter place.
Pets Adapt To Global Warming
But there is a limit to their adaptability, for example did you know that dogs and cats are now shedding their fur more, not just because summer is coming either.
There can no longer be a question of IF the climate is changing, it's scientific fact that Our Mother Earth is warming up, and there is now overwhelming scientific consensus that it is human caused. With global warming on the increase, more cars, more industry, more pollution, causing species and their habitats to decrease, chances for ecosystems to adapt naturally are slim to none. And that puts our pets squarely in the crosshairs of a global warming dilemma that only us humans can do something about.

Dick, I'm sorry that I've been away from commenting for a while. The day job is busy and then I was out of town for a week. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things.
And I couldn't resist making a joke here. My dog may not notice the climate change, but my surgically repaired knee and hip do. I can predict rain two days out, bro! LOL.

Well thanks for taking the time to stop by, always good to see you here. I have one of those rain predictor things too, a bit of arthritus in my left thumb, throbs like a son of a gun when its about to rain!

We have two long-haired cats in our home and even if it is not too hot here, they seem to be shedding more than before. Even our short-haired cats seem to be shedding unusually. I liked the first picture here in your article, it's so very very cute!! Reminds me of Simon's Cat (www.simonscat.com/). Their videos there are very funny, especially the "Cat Man Do" LOL

So a global temperature rise of less than 1 degree celcius is making pets shed their fur more? Come on this is tin foil hat territory.

Thanks for your comment John, I was asked to write this for an environmental group and they didn't furnish me with any statistics on how much warmer it is now (you suggest 1 degree celcius) seems hard to believe that a change of just one degree would cause that but if you are a pet owner or animal lover you know that animals are very sensitive to these things so I wouldn't doubt a degree could do it.

Thanks Felicia, I got that first image you commented about from Google images, thought it was pretty cute too. I'll have to check out the Simon's Cat videos too, thanks for stopping by!

The warming of the planet is having a huge effect on amphibians in particular. I have no idea if it's making dogs and cats shed more but there are some wild animals out there being affected big time. I've heard we not have frogs on the planet for much longer the ways things are headed.

I've been training dogs for 34 years and I can't really say if dogs shed more now than they did 30 years ago. It's an interesting thing to ponder, but I don't know how you could prove it was happening if you wanted to.

Really? no more frogs? Wow! that seems a bit extreme, what are we going to do without them?

I was chatting to a friend the other night, and he wasn't convinced that global warming isn't a result of macro effects. When I asked him what Macro effects, what has changed in the past 100 years other than human development, he didn't have an answer.
I don't think he truely believed that global warming was being caused by Macro effects, he was just unwilling to accept the obvious truth that we are to blame.
The first step is to accept our involvement, then we can move more quickly to putting the solution in place.

Interesting article. I know definately that animals can adapt to climate change you just have to know which animal normal climate and adapt them at the proper time of year. I think we should all do our best to be responsible and dilegent to take care of the earth, but I don't feel we should get to carried away with it.
